PRIVATE ONE ON ONE LOCAL LESSONS ARE AVAILABLE
Michael Stergis has one of the largest private guitar and bass student clienteles around the Middle Tennessee area. He keeps roughly forty students a week in his stable of players that are studying. His students are taught in his private studio in Hewgley’s Music Store located in Columbia, Tennessee. One of the biggest differences in Michael and how he approaches new students is his accessibility and being able to get him on the phone and have a personal conversation, and he will answer any and all questions you may have regarding your student. Michael prides himself in not being just a website but a musical resource with personal attention and contact.
Michael has been involved in the music industry his entire life. He became a professional musician and guitarist by joining the A. F. of M. in 1963 with his first band. His high school years playing trumpet gained him entry into the Egyptian Combo, a chart hit MGM recording group which had lost four of its members to the Army in Vietnam. As a studied brass player with credits from Southern Illinois University, Arkansas State U. and the U. of Denver, he worked with artists such as the Mills Brothers, Bob Kuban, Stan Kenton, Art Pepper, Bunky Green and Sonny and Cher as well as lead trumpet with the Ice follies, Six flags Over Mid-America and the PRCA. Michael’s private study took him deeper into the jazz world studying with music legends like Clark Terry, Marvin Stamm, Dizzy Gillespie, Claude Gordon and Maynard Ferguson. In awe of his mentor, Michael was sent to Hollywood by Maynard Ferguson for the first time.
After moving to Los Angeles as a high note trumpet player, he started gaining his TV and film experience on guitar and vocal by performing on Jonny Carson and the Tonight Show, The Merv Griffin Show, Mike Douglas Show, The Midnight Special, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concerts and numerous music videos. Michael became one of the senior members of Stephen Stills and the California Blues Band as well as Crosby, Stills and Nash for many years. As a staff writer for Stephen Stills and Gold Hill Music, he co-wrote three songs on the multi-platinum Crosby, Stills and Nash “Daylight Again” album. Then adding another co-write with Graham Nash and Stephen Stills on the CSN “Allies” album, as well as a song with Stephen Stills on the Ringo Starr's “Stop and Smell the Roses” album to name a few. Michael’s talents as credited song writer, arranger, studio guitarist and singer as well as producer will be one of the biggest driving forces behind an upcoming feature film, "For What It's Worth". As owner and CEO of Little Egypt Films, Michael has hand-picked the most respected, credited and brightest partners to participate as his corporate core team to assure that "For What It's Worth" is a complete success.
